Indian opening stand has always been on talks since few days especially prior to champions trophy when the selection of Shikhar Dhawan made its way to the team as an opener along with Rohit Sharma who was also not on his prime touch that time. As the tournament started rolling, this duo has sealed a magnificent show for Indian team which led the Indian side to an almost undefeated quest. Although the Virat Kohli led side engulfed two heart breaking defeats in their own account while proceeding through the champions league but their first defeat didn’t entirely fall into the favor of batsmen, instead their bowling department failed to perform. Whereas their 2nd defeat against the arch rival Pakistan in the finale night had marked a dubious display for the Indian batsmen as they failed to chase down 340. Despite the heart breaking defeat against Pakistan in the decider, the whole champions trophy journey turned out to be career settling outing for the “Gabbar” of Indian side. Shikhar Dhawan had prevailed his opening spot in Indian team by shattering all the records of legendary Indian batsmen through scoring the second highest ODI runs as an Indian in a month.

Dhawan scored all total 490 runs in June 2017 which placed him to the second spot after the God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar’s 564 in April 1998. Dhawan’s outstanding batting display had been the pivot of India’s Champions trophy journey to the finals. His consistent batting blitz not only strengthened India’s opening onslaught but also cropped up the increasing vacuum put to be shown in their opening pair in an overseas soil. His flamboyant batting touch over an English soil helped his striking companion Rohit Sharma who was running out of his relieved touch with bat, find his much sought batting form in the middle. Dhawan’s feats in championship league had expanded his wings in a different level as he also became the joint highest century scorer in the ICC Champions Trophy.

The entire Indian team although has seen so many controversies for their defeat against Pakistan in finale but Dhawan’s batting expedition in the championship tour at the end delivered the Indian team to exhale something in order to retaliate the critics thrown to them. Although Rahane was on the pipeline in the race of worthy opening pair but Dhawan’s performance came up to be the stress reliever for India’s future rummage of reliable batsmen.
