Indian Men compound team win gold at Archery World Cup

The Indian Men’s compound team which included Abhishek Verma, Amanjeet Singh, and Chinna Raju Srither won India a gold medal in the final of the compound event against Colombia. Their final score read 226-221 in favour of India. The Colombians were the tenth seed entering into the contest and the Indians soared over them winning their first gold in the competition.

The Indian team had taken down the team USA who were the top seed in the semis with a score of 232-230 in a nail biting match. India had also defeated Iran with a two margin the quarters. Their performance in the finals displayed complete dominance over the Colombian team.

Verma stood out as India’s star performer for the day. He scored two 10s in the first round and helped India take a 1 point lead after the first end of the final. India extended their lead to 3 points after the second end and finally finished with a five-point lead after the fourth end.

The Compound mixed team of Abhishek Verma and Jyothi Surekha Vennam lost 152-158 to Korea in the semifinal. They will next face the USA in the bronze medal later today. The women’s compound team was defeated by Denmark in the quarters by six points.

Abhishek Verma also competing in Compound Men’s singles got a bye in the second round and will be up against Slovenia’s Dejan Sitar in the third round. Chinna Raju Srither emerged victorious against Jose Carlos Ospina and will face Bridger Deaton from America in the next round.
