As the much anticipated IPL 2020 auction has been taking place in Kolkata, both Australia and England players have been in the radar since the beginning. Earlier 997 players were chosen but it has cut down to 332 now. Among these 186 players are Indian and 143 are overseas players and 3 players are from Associate Nations.
The players like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Chris Lynn, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Dale Steyn & Angelo Mathews have kept their reserve price of INR 2 crore. Robin Uthappa is the only Indian who kept his base price of INR 1.5 crore while three other players – Piyush Chawla, Yusuf Pathan and Jaydev Unadkat have set their base price at INR 1 crore.
While Pat Cummins became the most expensive (15.50 Crore to Kolkata Knight Riders) foreign player in the IPL auction, Glenn Maxwell sold for 10.75 Crore to Kings XI Punjab. Like Australia players, the hype was high for England players also.
Morgan had a base price of 1.5 Crore where Delhi Capitals started bidding for him first. However, the Kolkata Knight Riders immediately joined and went on a tussle with Delhi. The bidding war continued until Delhi raised the price to 4 Crore but eventually, Kolkata bought him for 5.25 crore.
Eoin Morgan took part in the 2010 IPL where Royal Challengers Bangalore bought him for a sum of $220,000. However, he didn’t get much opportunity. In 2011, Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for $350,000 for the next 3 years. He didn’t take part in 2014 whereas Sunrisers Hyderabad purchased him for $150,000 in 2015. In 2017, he was bought by Kings XI Punjab for Rs. 2 Crore.
The England All-Rounder Sam Curran got his new team and it is none other than MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. The three times IPL champion bought him for 5.5 crores after a bidding tussle with Delhi Capitals. He had his base price of 1 Crore. He is the first bowler to take a hat-trick in IPL 2019 while playing for Kings XI Punjab.
Sam Curran made his IPL debut last year when he was bought by Kings XI Punjab for a whopping 7.2 Crores. He performed quite well with both bat and ball where his best bowling figures were 4-11 against Delhi Capitals in Mohali. He smashed a blitzy 55 off 24 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders as well. His inclusion will strengthen CSK’s pace attack which featured Indian pacer Deepak Chahar.
One of the vital cogs in England’s World Cup success, Jason Roy didn’t have a consistent run in IPL so far. However, things have changed this year as Delhi Capitals bought him for 1.50 Crores. He is one of the explosive openers in recent times as well who will join the players like – Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant etc.
Jason Roy previously was a part of Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League. So far, he has played in eight IPL matches and has scored 179 runs. His inclusion will give more strength to Delhi.
