The American skyscraper, John Isner has once again laid aside his final spot in the Miami Open by winning the thespian semifinal match against the next generation tennis player, Felix Auger-Aliassime. Last year, the North Carolina born tennis star pulled off his maiden Masters title in Miami by defeating the German, Alexandre Zverev.

By the virtue of his Miami crown, John Isner claimed his career-high singles ranking of World Number eight. This year the World Number nine, Isner will play his fifth Masters final will face the Swiss, Roger Federer in the championship battle of the 30-year-olds. Federer will be playing the 50th Masters final of his career in Miami. 

The two-meter-tall man holds the second-highest number of aces in the history of the ATP World Tour and he has served a total of 11,372 aces. The 33-year-old, John Isner is once again back in the second event of the ‘Double Sunshine’ and this year the Dallas resident has resurged with some striking records in the Miami Heat.

1. First American Since 2003 To Reach Two Consecutive Miami Open Finals

The Americans have always dominated the sport of tennis on the men’s as well as on the women’s track. The American legends have held the prestigious title of Florida on numerous occasions. However, John Isner becomes the only American ATP player to step into two successive Miami Open finals, since the year 2003 after Andre Agassi bagged his sixth title in Miami and the third straight one.

2. First Tennis Professional To Play Nine Tiebreakers In a Single Masters Event

After winning a nerve-racking semifinal against the Canadian rising star, Felix Auger-Aliassime, John Isner makes a record of 9-0 in tie-breakers en route to his championship match. The American has won ten sets so far in the Miami Open 2019 and nine of them turn out to be tiebreakers. He becomes the first man to play and win nine tiebreakers in a single Masters 1000 event.

3. Second Highest Tiebreakers Won On The ATP Tour

In addition to the 9-0 figure in Miami, John Isner reaches the second place on the list of ‘most numbers of tiebreakers won on the ATP tour’. He has won 402 tiebreakers in his ATP tenure and Roger Federer, the tiebreak titan takes the apex with 439 tiebreakers won and followed by Ivo Karlovic on the third position with 390 tiebreakers.

Additionally, in the Miami Open 2019, John Isner played his 195th tiebreak in his 196th Masters 1000 match, and the ratio accounts to 99.5% which is the second highest figure on ATP circuit and the highest record is earned by the Croatian, Ivo Karlovic and his ratio is 107%.

4. 12 Straight Sets On The Courts Of Miami

The defending champion at the Miami Open 2019, John Isner knocked down the German, Alexandre Zverev last year in three sets to collect his first ever Masters 1000 in the Key Biscayne venue. The World Number nine American dropped his first set and later won the other two 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. With that, Isner stretches a straight-set winning streak to number 12 in the Miami Open.

5. 11 Successive Matches Won Miami

This year, John Isner grappled more on the Hard Rock Stadium to win matches as he stretched most of his sets to tiebreakers. The American has dropped 16 games more than what he dropped last year, before reaching the finals in Miami. However, he has recorded another milestone in his career by setting up a match-winning streak to 11 on the Masters’ courts of Florida.
