Jose Mourinho “interested” in shock move to manage Premier League club

Former Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho has been out of management since December after he was sacked by the Premier League giants following a horrific start to last season.

The Portuguese manager, however, has been touted to return to the sidelines as a shock replacement for current Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez at St. James’ Park.

Mourinho has reportedly told his closest friends that he would be interested to manage the Magpies if the club’s potential new owner Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed contacts him after the takeover from Mike Ashley.

Jose Mourinho is a shock contender to take over the managerial mantle from Rafa Benitez at Newcastle.

Sheikh Khaled, a member of the Abu Dhabi Royal Family and cousin of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour, is on the verge of completing a £350 million deal which will kickstart a new era at the historic club.

Current manager Rafa Benitez’s contract is in the final days of its completion and a delay in renewal has been due to the potential new ownership. The former Liverpool manager has not been provided with sufficient funds to invest in his squad and has repeatedly signalled his frustration to the Newcastle hierarchy.

Jose Mourinho’s appointment will be a huge statement from the incoming owners, who has previously spoken about his admiration for Newcastle. The 56-year old was assistant manager to the late Sir Bobby Robson in his time at Barcelona and wanted to follow the great Englishman to Newcastle United.

Jose Mourinho was assistant to former Barcelona and Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson.

“I like to go there. I like the feeling of going to Mr. Robson’s home. I like that feeling. I like the stadium. I like the atmosphere. They are a good, enthusiastic crowd. I like the Geordies,” he said following his visit to St. James’ Park last season with Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho could bring a new dawn at Newcastle if he were to be appointed manager at the club. With his unparalleled experience and the new owners’ financial backing, he could finally be able to steer this sleeping Premier League giant to a glorious future.
