Jurgen Klopp has been hailed as the best manager in the world by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the company which owns the Liverpool Football Club.

On Friday, Liverpool announced a contract extension for Jurgen Klopp. The German would now be at the helm of the current European Champions till 2024. Along with the former Borussia Dortmund boss, his assistant managers Peter Krawietz and Pepijn Lijnders have also extended their stay.

In a joint statement, Principal owner John Henry, chairman Tom Werner and FSG president Mike Gordon were quoted saying: “We are absolutely delighted we have been able to reach an agreement with Jurgen – as well as Peter and Pep – on extending their time with the club. As we are sure our supporters would agree, it is truly wonderful news and we are all extremely thrilled, not only professionally, but personally too.

“If Liverpool Football Club were looking to appoint the most outstanding, elite manager for our current status today, Jurgen would be the first choice – no question.”

The role of Sports Director Michael Edwards was also praised by the Liverpool hierarchy. As they believe Edwards along with Klopp makes up an “elite” leadership. Read the full statement here.

Jurgen Klopp started his managerial career at Mainz 05, the club he retired as a player. The German side was at that time playing in the second tier. However they found themselves finishing 11th in the Bundesliga under the German’s only third full season at the helm. He then made a coveted move to Borussia Dortmund which has earned him two Bundesliga titles.

Since 2015, he has been at Anfield and turned himself from a promising prospect to a managerial genius. While his trophy cabinet at Liverpool just has two showpieces, one of them is the most prestigious trophy in club football.

However, neutral fans would have liked him to move on to a new challenge and a new chapter at the end of his contract. Although it doesn’t really matter, wherever he stays, Jurgen Klopp would always be regarded as a genius. Is he the best? Can’t claim that till Pep Guardiola really drops down. Though till then, let’s settle for, “He’s arguably the best”.
