2019 has been a better year for the Japanese superstar Kei Nishikori even though he was forced to miss a large part of the season due to an elbow injury.

He managed to win his first title since 2016 at the Brisbane Open beating Daniil Medvedev in the final in three sets. He also managed to reach the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, The French Open and the Wimbledon.

Kei Nishikori, however, did not play any tournament after the US Open due to an elbow problem. He is currently recovering from a surgery he underwent in October for the elbow. He hopes to be fit for the Australian Open in 2020.

Michael Chang has been Kei Nishikori’s coach since 2014. That year was an outstanding year for Kei Nishikori. He managed to reach his first Grand Slam final at the US Open becoming the first man from Asia to reach the final of a Major Championship.

Clearly, an addition to the team helped Kei Nishikori play his best tennis which is why he has made a new addition to his coaching team – Max “The Beast” Mirnyi.

Max Mirnyi is a former Belarusian tennis player who specialized in doubles. In his 22 years on the ATP Tour he picked 52 doubles’ titles including 6 grand slams at the French Open and the US Open. He also won 5 titles in mixed doubles out of which 4 were Grand Slams.

In 2018, he announced his retirement from tennis, but he couldn’t leave tennis completely which is why signed on to be Kei Nishikori’s coach.

The next year is also the year of the Olympics, which is being held in Tokyo, Japan. Kei Nishikori will be hoping that this addition to his coaching will help him play his best tennis in 2020 and possibly win a gold medal in front of his home crowd.
