While the Indiana Fever have shown major growth this season, one name continues to shine consistently and brightly above the rest. That of Kelsey Mitchell. As the locker room’s top scorer so far, the All-Star created history against the Chicago Sky today. With Caitlin Clark sidelined for the third time this season due to a lingering right groin injury, Mitchell stepped in to save the day.

Entering the matchup averaging 19.6 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists, Mitchell made a jaw-dropping move. She had 13 points in the first quarter alone, setting the tone early at Wintrust Arena and putting the Fever in control. But beyond the strong start, Mitchell’s performance carried more profound meaning.

With that, Mitchell officially crossed the 400-point mark against the Chicago Sky, becoming the first Indiana Fever player to do so since 2024. Her latest output brings her total to 402 points scored against the Sky across 16 games, averaging just under 30 minutes per outing. It’s a stat that highlights her consistency and her dominance against a key Eastern Conference opponent.

While most of the spotlight this season has been on Caitlin Clark, Mitchell’s veteran leadership and scoring prowess have kept the Fever competitive. Her ability to take over when needed, especially against a squad featuring the likes of Angel Reese, proves how essential she is to Indiana’s playoff push.

With Clark’s return still uncertain, Kelsey Mitchell’s hot streak couldn’t have come at a better time! After all, the team has adjusted to the star’s absence and revised their game strategies accordingly. While the Indiana Fever continues to dominate on the hardwood, the Fever star keeps staying in the headline.

Caitlin Clark Effect continues outside the hardwood

From plummeting ticket sales to bolstering Indiana Fever towards their first playoffs since 2016, Caitlin Clark has significantly contributed to the league. Now in her second season in the pros, her Caitlin Clark Effect continues to surround the league and beyond.

Well, popular national journalist and commentator, Christine Brennan, released a book on the Fever guard on July 8, 2025. Titled “On Her Game: Caitlin Clark and the Revolution in Women’s Sports,” the book documents Clark’s impactful journey from her Iowa Hawkeyes days to clinching historic achievements under Indiana Fever.

What’s your perspective on:

With Clark out, is Kelsey Mitchell proving she's the real backbone of the Fever?

But in a recent turn of events, Brennan shared a milestone concerning the book. Falling under the non-fiction category, Clark’s biography has been selling like hot-cakes ever since it hit the market. The widespread popularity couldn’t escape the print media either.

Sharing a photograph of the newspaper clipping on X, Brennan wrote, “How fun this is to see it in the New York Times print edition today. Thanks to everyone who bought, is buying, and will buy this book. I’m so grateful. Thank you, ⁦Scribner Books.” Professing gratitude to buyers, readers, and the publishing house, Brennan shared an important update with the community.

Her book ranked 2nd in the list of print and hardcover bestsellers and 3rd overall in print and e-book bestsellers, as mentioned by the New York Times recently. While Clark’s journey is testament to her grit, determination and sheer dedication, is her absence a boon in disguise for the locker room? That remains to be seen.
