The rivalry between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov will probably go down in history as one the greatest of all time. Khabib and McGregor came face to face at UFC 229. Khabib successfully defended his title belt via fourth-round submission. He caught McGregor in a neck crank to claim the victory.
Khabib Nurmagomedov later defended his title belt against interim champion Dustin Poirier at UFC 242, in an undisputed lightweight title match. Nurmagomedov looked incredible as he picked up yet another submission victory in the third round of the fight.
Meanwhile, Conor McGregor made his much anticipated UFC return, when he knocked out Donald Cerrone in under 40 seconds to pick up the victory. McGregor returned to welterweight and looked brilliant in his comeback fight.
And now, Dana White looks certain of a Khabib and McGregor rematch for the lightweight title. In response to a lot of back and forth happening from both the sides, recently, Khabib tweeted a photo, mocking Conor McGregor.
Conor McGregor has only lost four times inside the octagon. In his 12 octagon appearances, McGregor has only lost twice. However, both the times, via submission. Interestingly enough, McGregor’s past two losses have also come via submission.
On a hilarious note, Khabib was quick to take a jab at former dual champion Conor McGregor. He posted a photo on Twitter, where the collage portrays three different images of McGregor losing a fight via submission across three divisions.
Additionally, Khabib could also be pointing at McGregor’s KO victory at 170. McGregor knocked out Cerrone, and in the process, became the first UFC fighter to pick up KO victories in the featherweight, lightweight and welterweight division. McGregor lost against Khabib via neck crank at UFC 229, and against Nate Diaz via rear-naked choke at UFC 196. Before making his UFC debut, McGregor lost against Artemij Sitenkov in his third MMA fight via kneebar.
It’s unclear if Khabib and McGregor will fight next, however, there is an equally tough opponent ahead of him. Khabib Nurmagomedov will face Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 for the UFC lightweight championship. Both the fighters will headline the PPV, scheduled to take place inside Barclays Centre, New York.
