Every athlete has a number of fans who adore them to the ends of the earth and back again. However, they also have their detractors, who absolutely detest these players. The NBA is no different, in fact a recent study showed that Los Angeles Lakers player, LeBron James is the most hated player according to Twitter.

In all honesty, it was surprising to LeBron James was not well-liked among the fans. The 34-year old has been quite successful and is considered the best current player in the NBA. Unfortunately, his fame has attracted a fair number of haters, as new Twitter data shows.

According to geotagged data from as far back as the end of the 2018-19 season, the results were tallied. These catered to tweets that mention “hating” or “disliking” a specific NBA player. Sportsinsider.com put up a map of the United States that depicted the players who were viewed the least favourably in each state.

Out of all the 50 states, James is the most “hated” player in half of them. The Lakers player is followed by Golden State Warriors player, Kevin Durant on 17. Other players on the list were Boston Celtics player Kyrie Irving (5 states), New Orleans Pelicans player Anthony Davis (2 states) and Houston Rockets’ James Harden (1 state).

The website algorithm combed over 100,000 tweets from every location in the United States since the NBA Finals’ conclusion. James was the most disliked player in half of the country, this included the likes of California and most of the West Coast.

Coming to Kevin Durant, the Warriors star ruptured his right Achilles tendon during Game 5 of the NBA Finals. He stunned many when he announced that he was declining his $31.5 million one-year player option with the Warriors to become an unrestricted free agent. Needless to say, this will blow the market wide open.
