Madrid Open Trolls Davis Cup 2019 as Gerard Pique Engages in Twitter War

As the Davis Cup 2019 got underway on Caja Magica (an avenue where Mutua Madrid Open takes place annually), the inauguration event of the 119-year-old tournament dealt with an insufficient public turning up for the same.

In regard to that, the official twitter handle of Madrid Open tweeted, “nothing like this,” referring to the numbed inaugural of Davis Cup Finals 2019. Later they deleted the tweet from their official handle.

With FC Barcelona’s defender, Gerard Pique backing up the historic event, the inaugural of the Piqué Cup resulted in a debacle.

Belgian Filip Dewulf, the former semi-finalist at Roland Garros 1997 – tweeted a picture that portrayed the lack of supporters at the event. “Not the biggest crowd…yet. 15 people sitting on this side of the stands.”

Later Gerard Pique responded: “It’s easy to take a picture before the players arrive at the court and criticize. The true atmosphere during the game is this one.” This tweet from Pique was deleted.

He again tweeted with a more packed crowd photograph, “Are you sure there are just 15?? 😂😂😂😂

The ticket sales of the Davis Cup 2019 have been a challenge. The match-up where Spain plays Russia has been sold out but the rest of the ties are in the process of trading their seats. Getting the live score update has also been mismanaged and no reference is provided to any matches being played on the official website.

Tennis followers are facing difficulties in catching up with the ties. Since the regular television broadcasters are not airing the traditional event of tennis.

On Day One of Davis Cup Finals 2019, Canada’s Vasek Pospisil defeated Italy’s Fabio Fognini and the Canadian rising star, Felix Auger-Aliassime withdrew from the tournament due to an injury. Canadians will next take on the Team USA, with a win over them, Canada will sail into the quarterfinals of Davis Cup Finals 2019.
