Rohit Sharma found an admirer in the form of former South Africa captain Graeme Smith. The 38-year old expressed his thoughts on the batsman on the 1st day of the 3rd Test match against South Africa in Ranchi.

Virat Kohli’s troops have already wrapped the title following their victory against the Proteas in the 2nd Test match in Pune.

Rohit Sharma has been in supreme form and was promoted at the top order in the test side for his efforts. In the wake of his great innings on the second day, he became the first Indian opener to score three centuries in a Test series.

This sort of display shows how the Indian batsman has delivered since getting promoted up the order. Amidst all this, Rohit made a graceful cover drive in the 36th over that went for a four and it left Graeme Smith impressed.

The ex-Proteas captain appreciated the shot even though his side was at the receiving end. When he saw the shot the first word that was uttered from Smith’s mouth was “Magic”.

It was probably the shot of the day by the Indian batsman, as he stayed on the back-foot. However, he punched the ball on the cover to make South Africa look helpless in the process.

The first day ended after the 58th over, but bad light and rain can be accused of spoiling the show. However, India has managed to score 224 runs while losing 3 wickets, it was a good partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit which steadied India’s innings, which could have been spoiled after India lost 3 wickets early in the game including skipper Virat Kohli’s.

Now, the match will be resumed tomorrow where India will continue its inning and would aim to go beyond 400. Presently, Rohit is at 117 and not out. It is remained to see for how long the vice-captain for India in limited-overs stay at the pitch.
