Sri Lankan spearhead, Lasith Malinga has joined the Mumbai Indians squad on Friday (April 15) providing a big boost for the defending champions. There’s no clarity whether he’s perfectly fit or when he is likely to join the team at the ground.

Sri Lanka suffered repercussions in their bowling department owning to his absence in the recently-concluded Asia Cup and ICC World T20 due to his fitness issues.
Before returning home due to an injury, he played the first match against UAE in Bangladesh.

He renounced his captaincy and even went to India for the World T20, but couldn’t recover and returned home.
“He can’t go without our permission. If he defies us and goes, he can only return after sitting on the bench,” Tilanga Sumathipala, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board Head said earlier.

Ricky Ponting affirmed that the speedster has joined the squad but will miss the first half of the tournament. Malinga has played 98 matches for Mumbai with 143 wickets at an average of 17.80 against his name.
