Manchester United Cruise Past Vulnerable Norwich City in a 4-0 Victory

Norwich City visited Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday for a Premier League match. The visiting sits on the bottom of the table. United, on the other hand, is competing for the Champions League Qualification place.

After a decent spell over Christmas, United was in the need of a response. They were looking to get back to winnings ways as their previous match against Arsenal was a 2-0 loss.

Norwich had their last win against Everton which dates back to November. The Canaries have drawn their previous last two outings. Those include Tottenham and Crystal Palace.

The match on Saturday was a much-needed boost as United won 4-0 against the visiting side. It was a pretty one-sided affair as Norwich was not able to produce anything in the game.

United named their basic starting 11 with the exception of Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata in the squad. Daniel James was left out and Harry Maguire was a shock with his speedy recovery. Norwich still plays without their main striker Teemu Pukki. Idah is the new man who has been leading the side’s attack.

Norwich Kicks Off the Start

The game kicked off on an even note, considering United’s woes against the bottom half teams. They started to grow in the match as they dominated possession.

The long ball deliveries via Norwich did not clear the Red Devils’ back defense. Andreas Pereira and Marcus Rashford used their skills to outdo their defenders but still not getting near to score. Rashford did a brilliant elastic to complete trick Sam Byram. Yet the pass was not completed when he tried to find Juan Mata.

The match continued at a single pace for the first 15 minutes. United started getting dangerous after that. It was not long before Mata whipped in a delicious ball in the box which was finished by Marcus Rashford on the far post. United broke the deadlock in 26 minutes and it was all because of the magic assist by Juan Mata.

Manchester United then started bullying the match as they kept creating chances. Norwich came close with a counter-attack when the ball was slid to Cantwell. The player had all the room as he went for a low bottom right corner shot first time. David De Gea produced one of his great saved to keep his team in the game to save that one.

Second Half and how it happened

The second half started in the same tone as United attacked aggressively. The result was met at the 46th minute as Rashford played a through ball for Brandon Williams. The youngster made a great run only to be fouled by Tim Krul in the penalty box. Rashford scored the penalty calmly as he got a brace on his 200th appearance for the club.

In a span of two minutes of the penalty, United tripled their lead. Anthony Martial scored a rare header as he met Mata’s cross. Norwich City was a long way out of the game as United looked to get away with 3 points.

United looked to have scored their 4th of the match when Williams skied the ball above. The left-back was given a perfect open goal which he was not able to finish.

Daniel James and Mason Greenwood made their way on the pitch as the Norwich also started substituting their players. The entrance of the 18yr old Greenwood proved to be another success. He scored United’s 4th goal with perfect composure as he tucked the ball in the bottom right from the edge of the box.

Satisfying Result For Manchester United

This was Manchester United’s 4th clean sheet in the league which sees them maintain their 5th position in the table. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer beamed after the match as his side kept a rare clean sheet.

Norwich City stays at the bottom as Daniel Farke would be disappointed. The team continues to lack the charisma they had in the starting. They keep falling down and are desperate to hold on to the Premier League.

Manchester United will face another test as they face Liverpool at Anfield. United is the only team to take a point against the runaway leaders. This will be a crucial match also considering their rivalry.
