A seventh World Drivers’ Championship awaits Lewis Hamilton at the end of the season. He has been outstanding this season and created a new all-time record of 92 wins last week in Portimao.

For that reason, many have called for the British driver to be knighted for his achievements. However, there are also others who are still on the fence about handing out a knighthood to him.

Regardless, F1 expert Martin Brundle believes that the Mercedes driver deserves the title of ‘Sir’ Lewis Hamilton. And that it would reflect the greatness and dominance that he has produced in the sport.

Lewis Hamilton has a plethora of racing records to his name

Indeed, receiving a knighthood is a big honor for any British citizen. Having contributed so much to the country and for his amount of achievements, Brundle thinks Hamilton completely deserves it.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Brundle said, “Yes I do (on whether Lewis deserves a knighthood), he has achieved a lot. And I know he lives in Monaco, but he will still be paying a massive chunk of tax in the UK on his UK earnings and money from the British Grand Prix.”

“So that’s something that’s up for debate. But in pure sporting terms, without doubt.” concluded Brundle.

The idea most certainly must be explored, possibly once Hamilton retires. But with F1 having a history of so many knighted racing legends, Hamilton has achieved enough to at least come under consideration.

Only a few days ago, after he created the record, were people talking about this subject. And former Red Bull driver, David Coulthard, had a similar opinion about Hamilton deserving a knighthood.

Formula 1 has seen a number of drivers receiving knighthoods. Sir Jackie Stewart, Sir Stirling Moss, and Sir Frank Williams, are just a few of the prominent figures that come to mind.

But a racing legend like Hamilton at the top of his game is only going to add to that famed list. With a century of race wins and a few more titles for the taking, one might feel it is only a matter of time before he is bestowed with a knighthood.
