“Max Verstappen Once in a Decade Superstar Like Lionel Messi” – Robert Doornbos

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has been a force of nature in Formula One. The Dutch driver obviously possesses a lot of talent, and some have acknowledged it. Former F1 driver, Robert Doornbos made a bold comparison between Verstappen and FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

Doornbos spoke about his compatriot in an interview with Gassan magazine. He declared, “Max Verstappen is the Messi of motorsport. Once in the decade a super talent like Max comes by. Someone who can and can do so much at such a young age is unique.”

Now, Max Verstappen will be delighted to finally have a home race, in the form of the 2020 Dutch Grand Prix. In all honesty, it would be hugely poetic if Verstappen won at his first home Grand Prix. However, for that to happen, the 2020 Red Bull  have to provide Verstappen with a race-winning car.

Can Max Verstappen win at Zandvoort?

Admittedly, the circuit will have a number slow sections, but horsepower will play a big role in sealing victory. To that end, Robert Doornbos is not putting anything past the Red Bull driver.

“If you think something is impossible, Max does it anyway,” added Doornbos. “He has proven that he can rise above his material. But if the power is not there, compared to Ferrari or Mercedes, it will be difficult,”

2020 will probably be Red Bull’s last chance to topple Mercedes off its perch before the 2021 season. The Austrian team will unveil its 2020 challenger on the 12t of February, a day after Scuderia Ferrari. Drivers, Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon will be on hand to take the covers off and put the car through its paces in pre-season testing.

So, can Red Bull pose a serious threat to Mercedes and Ferrari? Can Verstappen become the first Dutchman to win his home Grand Prix?
