The Dutch driver just walked in and asked, “Christian, can you shut up please?”. This evoked laughter from the attendees. Citrix and Red Bull Racing have worked alongside each other for for more than a decade. In fact, the software giant has provided a number of key services to one of the sport’s top teams.

Each car is equipped with around 100 sensors, which tracks most of the car’s functions. This stems from tyre pressure to brake temperature, generating hundreds of gigabytes of data during a race weekend. All of these are analysed in real-time, giving Red Bull the opportunity to quickly make changes.

The partnership also helps improve Red Bull’s IT security, helping to centralise operations in a small number of hubs, rather than needing multiple laptops, each containing important data, which can be lost or stolen.

However, Max Verstappen was having none of it as the noise from the microphone was heard from where he was sitting upstairs.

Now, the Dutch driver is looking forward to the next race in Russia this weekend. Unfortunately, Red Bull and Max Verstappen are bracing for a difficult weekend owing to penalties. Since they are taking new components, Verstappen and teammate Alex Albon will cop a 5-place grid penalty.

Even Toro Rosso’s Pierre Gasly, is in a similar predicament, with a 5-place grid penalty as well. However, Daniil Kvyat in the other Toro Rosso will start from the back of the grid. This is because, the local hero took more engine components, resulting in a bigger and more costly penalty. Now, the real challenge will be how quickly Red Bull can make their way to the front.
