McLaren and Logitech Team Up to Promote Online Gaming

With the introduction of esports, Formula One is taking online gaming to a whole new level. McLaren-Honda is one of the teams to jump on the bandwagon as they introduced the ‘World’s Fastest Gamer’ competition. The ultimate prize is to be nominated as McLaren’s official simulator driver.

To come up with the competition, McLaren Technologies teamed up with leading gaming gear company Logitech.

All the best gamers in the world will battle each other across multiple racing platforms to decide who will be the ultimate gamer. There will be a few qualifying rounds and the finalists will head to the McLaren Technology Centre for the grand final. They will face off against players of other games including Forza Motorsport 6, iRacing and mobile game Gear Club. There will also be a head-to-head challenge where they face each other. Finally, they will have to impress the members of the team who will eventually work with the winner.

McLaren executive director, Zak Brown said, “This is a hugely exciting opportunity – not only within the gaming industry, but for everyone at McLaren and motorsport in general. We’ve long witnessed the growth of online sports gaming, and, right now, the parallels between the real and the virtual worlds have never been closer.”

Logitech Vice President Ujesh Desai said, “Logitech G has been in the esports world since the early days. We’re happy to now work with McLaren to lead the next mainstream esport obsession. Joining McLaren as a founding partner of the World’s Fastest Gamer brings together our combined expertise on one virtual platform.”

All this just proves that teams, leagues and players from the world of sport investing heavily in esports.
