This year’s tennis season is only a few days away from its conclusion. Every year, the circuit concludes with the Top 8 players competing for the second-most prestigious title in the game. Reaching the ATP Finals semifinals for the 9th time, World No. 1 Novak Djokovic reflected on the tumultuous 2020 season.

Despite the season getting cut-short in half, the 33-year-old Serbian has kept himself busy in every tournament. Till now, Djokovic has won the Australian Open, 2 Masters 1000 titles, and the Dubai Tennis Championships. Currently, he is looking to equal Roger Federer’s 6 time ATP Finals winner record.

The Serbian, along with the three other semi-finalists, is serving quarantine time in London. Considering the testimony of many players during the post-pandemic season, this has been the biggest challenge of all.

“Mentally and emotionally it has taken a lot”: Novak Djokovic

Keeping in mind that the current situation will follow through in 2021, some of the players have already resigned. The 17 time Grand Slam winner shed light on his experiences.

“I don’t feel maybe as exhausted this year at the end of the season as most of the other seasons, but I think mentally and emotionally it has taken a lot out of players because it’s very demanding, I think, to be constantly in the quarantine and not be able to go out and walk around,” said Djokovic.

Adding to that, he said, “Constantly being present and being in that competitive mode, even if you are not competing in a specific week, you’re still training and thinking about the season and what is coming next.”

The Serbian, who is two matches away from his season-end, wants to make it count before he rests.

“I look forward to rest”: World No. 1 Djokovic

The situation was unanticipated; however, all tennis players came through till the end of the season. Now, it’s time for Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, and Daniil Medvedev to put on one last show. Coincidentally,, they are also the 4 best-ranked players in the world, respectively.

Djokovic mentioned, “I look forward to hopefully finishing off the season in the best possible manner, but I also look forward to rest before the next one.”

Novak Djokovic will face arch rival Dominic Thiem to secure a place in the finals. Sadly, this is the last edition of the year-end championships in London as the location moves to Turin next year.
