Three days ago, Mercedes teased their fans by suggesting a sudden deviation from the familiar silver livery. They seemingly posted a rendering on a part of their car in an unusual paint scheme.

Now, less than 24 hours ago, the German outfit posted another picture of another part of their 2019 challenger. Once again, it was in the same livery as their earlier cryptic tweet. So, it actually begs the question, ‘Will Mercedes be ditching the silver and grey livery that was synonymous with them?’.
For all we know, it could be a testing livery and they could go back to their usual colours.

A few years ago, Red Bull pulled off the same stunt when they unveiled a black and white car, dubbed ‘the Camo-Bull’. However, it proved to be a red herring and the Austrian team were back in their iconic colours.
Some teams that shied away from tradition were Toro Rosso, who opted for a different livery in 2017, rather than look nearly the same as sister team, Red Bull. The other team was McLaren, who gradually weaned away from their silver livery to take a black and red livery in 2016. A year later, they went for an orange and black paint job and finally an orange and blue look in 2018.
