Almost seven out of ten young baseball players dream to play for the New York Yankees someday in their career. Time and again, the Yankees have always proved their supremacy in Major League Baseball. Some dominant players like Derek Jeter, Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, and Alex Rodriguez have been part of the Yankees’ legacy over the years.
The Yankees are probably the only MLB franchise that has remained at the top since the inception of MLB. Even top players like Derek Jeter did not have their pace guaranteed in the squad. Such is the competitiveness the Yankees have in their roster.

Even today, if a player does not perform in a couple of games, they will have to make room for the others who are waiting. In an old interview, the Yankees captain, Derek Jeter, opened up about the job security inside the roster.
Derek Jeter on his place in the Yankees squad
If the team is as big as the New York Yankees, it is necessary to remain consistent in the games. Because nobody has their place guaranteed their place in the lineup, even if they are the captain of the team.

Talking about the same, Derek Jeter revealed he had to watch his shoulder even in his last game.
“I was looking over my shoulder in the last game I played, man…,” Derek Jeter said to Harold Reynolds in an old interview. “In New York, somebody else is coming. You know, I came up in a culture, you did not do your job, the boss will get rid of you. He will get somebody else without hesitation. So we were always looking over our shoulders.”

Derek Jeter is one of the very few players who have the luxury to call themselves a one-team man. Having made his debut in the 1995 season, Jeter also played his last game for the Pinstripes in the 2014 season.
During his 20 years of professional career, Jeter won five World Series titles for the Yankees. Ever since his retirement, the Yankees are yet to name anyone their captain.
