Derek Jeter’s ‘Turn 2 Foundation’ once organized an online auction. All proceeds except Christie’s out-of-pocket sale expenses were to go directly into the charity fund. A lucky bidder was supposed to get a chance of spending the day with Jeter.

Derek Jeter is a legendary baseball icon, who played his entire MLB career for the New York Yankees. Jeter has the reputation of being one of the greatest shortstops in the sport. In his glorious 20-year-long career, he won five World Series championships. He is also a 14-time All-Star player. Post-retirement, his jersey got retired too and he got a deserving MLB Hall Of Fame induction.

The opening bid was $90,000. The winner was to get four seats in Jeter’s luxury suite during a Yankees game, plus an autographed game-used glove. The prize also included lunch for four with Jeter.

The sale ran through till December 17, 2013. According to a source, Jeter said, “the auction will help expand the foundation’s outreach and help young people ‘reach their full potential.'”

The ‘Turn 2 Foundation’ is still active and running for charitable causes. Last year, the foundation celebrated its 25th Anniversary at the Annual Dinner, raising $1.1 million for youth programs. Derek and his sister Sharlee, the President of the foundation, were joined by more than 400 celebrities, athletes, friends, family, and supporters for the dinner ceremony at Cipriani Wall Street.

Derek Jeter: The generous human being

Speaking on the 25th Anniversary, Jeter said, “We began this Foundation when I was just starting my career as a New York Yankee, and the impact we’ve had on thousands of youth across the country since then has far exceeded my dreams. Turn 2’s programs have inspired young people to rise above negative influences, remain focused and achieve their greatest ambitions, and our mission has never been more important than it is now. I am so grateful to our partners, sponsors and friends who continue to support Turn 2 year after year, and look forward to continue building upon this legacy.”
