Alex Rodriguez is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest baseball players to step onto the diamond. However the various controversies that occurred during his career have affected how people think of him. A legendary rapper wrote a piece on Rodriguez saying that the Yankee star didn’t have to be a role model.
For those unversed, that rapper is none other than Lil Wayne. The legendary rapper wrote an article in 2009 shortly after A-Rod admitted to using PEDs. Wayne wrote about the PED scandal in detail but most importantly talked about A-Rod’s role going forward.

Lil Wayne said that Alex Rodriguez did not have to be a role model
In the blog post he wrote for ESPN, Lil Wayne said that A-Rod didn’t have to be a role model. But that parents should use him as an example for their children and show them what not to do. Furthermore, he said that he didn’t like being a role model so A-Rod didn’t have to be one either.
In the ESPN blog post, Wayne said “When I was on Around the Horn I made a mistake when I said he should work with parents to explain the dangers of steroids to kids. I thought about it and really, it’s not his responsibility to teach kids right from wrong; that falls on the parents. The parents should be pointing to this guy and talking to their kids about how what he did was irresponsible and wrong. I always say I don’t like being a role model, so A-Rod shouldn’t be one, either.”
