‘A-Rod’ achieved massive success in his playing career. Even more during his tenure with the Yankees. But fame sometimes attracts seasons of infamy. Likewise, so did ‘A-Rod’ when he got caught and later suspended for an intake of performance-enhancing drugs.

Rodriguez’s love-hate relationship with the Yankees

The New York Yankees drafted Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez in 2004. For a long time, ‘A-Rod’ was the Yankees’ golden child. He slammed many home runs and took the Yankees to plenty of victories. Both Rodriguez and the Yankees reaped the benefits of a fruitful contract.

But then came the year 2013, and ‘A-Rod’ got caught in the Biogenesis scandal that shook MLB. As a result, the MLB administration immediately suspended him for the remaining games of that season. The ban also included the entire 2014 season. The whole Yankees unit felt largely betrayed.

So as a punishment, the Yankees authorities decided not to pay any bonus money to ‘A-Rod’ for his home-run milestones. But the authorities had a change of heart in his return season. In 2015, Rodriguez completed his 3000th hit. The extraordinary achievement came from a home run off Justin Verlander at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees authorities decided to honor Rodriguez’s 3000th hit.

According to a source, a thankful ‘A-Rod’ said, “I think it’s amazing, truly classy by the Steinbrenners and the Yankees’ organization. I never thought a year ago that I would be getting any ceremony. There was a thought that I was never going to play baseball again. To celebrate at home I am honored and flattered.’’

Alex Rodriguez: Life beyond the scandal and home runs

‘A-Rod’ retired from baseball in 2016. Though he has left the steroid days behind, the scandal still continues to hurt him. As the performance-enhancing drug intake is the reason that he still hasn’t got inducted into the MLB Hall Of Fame. Nonetheless, he is now a successful businessman and baseball analyst.
