New York Mets owner Steve Cohen is one of the richest men in baseball. But he is a level-headed man, nonetheless. Though he spends big, he puts out his money in a calculated manner. Steve Cohen is an investment fund manager and the present owner of the New York Mets. He began as a minority owner of the franchise in 2012. But later in 2020, Cohen became the official primary owner of the Mets by negotiating a deal with Sterling Equities.
Cohen was recently a guest on the New York Post podcast titled, ‘The Show’. Hosted by analysts Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman, the podcast discusses various topics from the world of baseball. In a recent episode, Cohen talked about his financial plans regarding the Mets.

New York Mets to strengthen inside a fixed outlay
The New York Mets consist of high-value star players who are free agents. The iconic names include the likes of Jacob deGrom, Edwin Diaz, Chris Bassitt, and Brandon Nimmo. But Steve Cohen is not willing to give out massive contracts to anyone.

Nonetheless, Cohen isn’t even overly worried about the future of the Mets. Because in his opinion, the team got disciplined with their spending this season. He already has got a vision and is optimistic about the outcomes. As per sources, and a report by ‘Spotrac’, the Mets’ payroll now stands at $291.8 million.

Cohen, on the podcast, said, “You should be able to build a pretty good team at $300 million. If you can’t do that, then that’s a problem. I am cognizant that I am part of a community. I don’t want to just be flippant about what I’m going to do relative to what’s going on with the rest of the baseball community.”

Cohen added, “Listen, I’ve got to live in this world. I can’t just act like it doesn’t exist. It really depends on who we want to bring back, what are the other opportunities out there, and we’ll figure it out.”
The present situation of the team
The Mets now stand at the top of the National League East zonal rankings. They also won their last game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Defeating the Dodgers by a 5-3 margin, the Mets clinched the series too. The team now appears as one of the leading contenders for a World Series victory.
