Serena Williams needs no introduction. A sensational tennis star who dominated the game for over two decades is planning to bid farewell to tennis. The American tennis star has several records on her name. She holds the most number of grand slam titles (23) among the active players.

Although she owned tennis, many people might not know that she also loved baseball. And not to forget when she tossed the ceremonial pitch for the New York Yankees when she was in her prime in tennis.

Earlier this week, the former world number one tennis star announced that the upcoming US Open would be her last grand slam tournament. Although she did not clearly say that she will retire from the game, Serena did hint that she might not play after the 2022 US Open.

When Serena Williams threw out the first pitch for the New York Yankees

Dating back into the 2009 MLB season, Serena Williams was at the peak of her tennis career. She was the number one-ranked tennis player at that time. And it is just a coincidence that when Serena threw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium, the New York Yankees went on to win the World Series that season.

And since then, the Pinstripes have won a single silverware in Major League Baseball. Taking to Twitter, Sporting News shared the video of Serena’s first pitch at Yankee Stadium after she announced her retirement.

However, her first pitch also created some unnecessary noise in the stadium. Because she tossed the ball in a weird direction. Being a strong woman, Serena put way too much effort into the first pitch and the ball landed far away from the catcher.

“In honor of the G.O.A.T. announcing her retirement, let’s take it back to the time when Serena Williams threw out the first ceremonial pitch at Yankee Stadium,” said the tweet.

The Yankees in 2022

When talking about the New York Yankees, the Aaron Boone-led team has been doing a wonderful job this season. However, the Pinstripes seem to have lost their winning way after the All-Star break. Because they have lost more games than they have won in the second half of the season.

Had the Yankees not dominated the first half, they would have become a mid-table team by now. There are still over 50 league games to play this season, and if the Yankees want to win the championship this season, they must figure out the weak links at the earliest.

Do you think the Yankees still have the chance to play in the 2022 World Series?
