2013 was an intense time for everyone in MLB, but especially so for Alex Rodriguez, as well as others accused of their role in the Biogenesis scandal. Rodriguez already had a history of PEDs usage and this new allegation tainted his reputation even more. His teammates, his fans – everyone was conflicted. Today, A-Rod is among the most beloved, yet one of the most hated MLB players of all time.

The higher-ups in MLB decided to take things into their own hands when investigating suspected players. One of which was, of course, the former Yankee. Even if he pleaded his innocence to anyone who would listen, because there was no concrete proof. And yet, the then MLB Commissioner, Bud Selig, did not believe Rodriguez. When Selig decided to not show up for a hearing, the hot-tempered former shortstop lost it.

Alex Rodriguez stormed out of an arbitration hearing after Bud Selig failed to show

Nov. 20th, 2013 was the ill-fated day Alex Rodriguez was in court. It was ruled that Bud Selig wouldn’t be forced to testify for his 211 suspensions of the Yankees slugger. And as Selig chose the option of not appearing, Rodriguez became understandably angry. Talking on WFAN Sports Radio, Rodriguez spoke about what happened after he heard the news.

“Today I just lost my mind. I banged the table and kicked a briefcase and slammed out of the room,” he told the host. A-Rod also talked about how he was disgusted by the Commissioner’s cowardly behavior of not talking to him face-to-face.

“He doesn’t have the courage to come look at me in the eye and tell me – this is why I did 211…he doesn’t have the courage to come see me and tell me this is why I’m gonna destroy your career,” the now-retired athlete added.

Rodriguez and Selig had apparently previously talked about the situation privately

ESPN reported how Rodriguez and the former Commissioner had made plans to discuss the situation, and even had some of the leaked transcripts. However, all these efforts from A-Rod went in vain, as the Yankees slugger faced a one-year suspension from the league. Not to forget that A-Rod was in his prime years when he wasted his one full season to the suspension.
