Joe Torre had a prolific career both as a player and later as a manager. His most successful management tenure came with the New York Yankees. So post-departure with the franchise, he wrote a memoir on his experiences of managing the team. The book goes by the title, ‘The Yankee Years.’

Joe Torre is a legendary figure in the sport of baseball. He played and later managed numerous MLB teams. As an MLB athlete, he was a multi-utility player. He was a nine-time All-Star player. Then later, as a manager, he guided the Yankees to four World Series championships. 

Torre once got asked about steroid usage in the Yankees camp. He chose not to speak much on the issue, despite him possibly having witnessed many instances of PED intake among baseball players over the years. 

Joe Torre’s opinion on steroid usage among Yankees 

It was during Joe Torre’s management that the legendary Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens’ steroid usage allegations came up. Even Yankees icon Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez came under suspicion for taking steroids. ‘A-Rod’ later admitted to being guilty of PED intake. During that time frame, many other legendary baseball players got busted for taking steroids. A reason why those players have not yet got an MLB Hall Of Fame induction.

The steroid scandals have long remained a hot topic for discussion in baseball. While promoting his book, Torre got asked various questions related to his tenure with the Yankees. Among these, the steroid issue also got put up. But the ex-manager did not have much to say. 

Speaking in the interview, Torre said, “I never saw evidence of anything. I saw home runs go way over the fence, so there were questions you always ask. I guess I didn’t want to believe more than not believing. Without concrete evidence, it was tough for me to go and question somebody.”

Torre added saying, “I had a job to do, to put a ball club on the field, and the last thing I wanted to do was to throw a monkey wrench. Whether I wasn’t strong enough or too naïve, I just wanted to stay out of somebody else’s business.”

Torre is now the assistant to the Commissioner Of Baseball. He is a horse racing enthusiast too and owns several horses. In addition, he also makes donations to charitable causes.
