Joe Torre’s opinion on steroid usage among Yankees
It was during Joe Torre’s management that the legendary Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens’ steroid usage allegations came up. Even Yankees icon Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez came under suspicion for taking steroids. ‘A-Rod’ later admitted to being guilty of PED intake. During that time frame, many other legendary baseball players got busted for taking steroids. A reason why those players have not yet got an MLB Hall Of Fame induction.

The steroid scandals have long remained a hot topic for discussion in baseball. While promoting his book, Torre got asked various questions related to his tenure with the Yankees. Among these, the steroid issue also got put up. But the ex-manager did not have much to say.
Speaking in the interview, Torre said, “I never saw evidence of anything. I saw home runs go way over the fence, so there were questions you always ask. I guess I didn’t want to believe more than not believing. Without concrete evidence, it was tough for me to go and question somebody.”
Torre added saying, “I had a job to do, to put a ball club on the field, and the last thing I wanted to do was to throw a monkey wrench. Whether I wasn’t strong enough or too naïve, I just wanted to stay out of somebody else’s business.”
