Derek Jeter embodied the DNA of the New York Yankees. He was the best thing that happened to the Yankees for a very long time. While playing for the New York Yankees, Jeter remained consistent throughout his baseball career. Known for his leadership in the ballparks and clutch performances from the plate, Jeter also had his share of fun during his younger days.
Derek Jeter is one of the very few MLB players who have the luxury of calling themselves a one-team man. While playing for the Pinstripes, Jeter always gave his 100% in the ballparks. Given his dedication and selflessness, he became a symbolic figure for the Yankees. Jeter was never the best player in his era, but his mere presence was enough to motivate the players and win the games.

But Jeter was always not like a serious ball player. During his younger days, he also used to have fun with his friends. In an interview with Jim Mandelaro of Democrat and Chronicle, Jeter’s college friend R. D. Long opened up about their life in the younger days. He specifically opened up about the time when Jeter won the World Series with the Yankees in his first season as a season-long player.
Derek Jeter was the prince of New York
Jeter made his big league debut in the 1995 season. But he spent the most time with the minor league team, Triple-A Columbus. Later in 1996, he became a regular member of the Yankees roster. And in his breakthrough season, Jeter won the World Series with the New York Yankees. Not to forget he was only 22-year-old at that time.

But apart from Jeter, his close friend Long also witnessed the Yankees’ victory. Because Long was staying at Jeter’s place while recovering from his shoulder injury. Going down memory lane, Long shared how he and Jeter would celebrate every game.
“Dog, I seen everything that happened,” he says. “In 1996, we were like the Beatles in New York. For 60 days, I was the king of New York because Jeter was my best friend. He was the prince. He was younger than me.”

“I’m setting up every place we’d go after games. Calling restaurants and telling them to get us bottles of Cristal. Two waitresses sitting on our lap all night. Some nights Jeter went out and just drank water — something I could never have done,” Long had said in 2014.
By the end of his professional career, Derek Jeter ended up winning five World Series titles for the Pinstripes. To date, the Yankees have won no World Series title after the Jeter era.
