San Diego Padres left fielder Jurickson Profar collapsed on the field while trying to make an exit post-injury. Profar had a brutal collision with a teammate, shortstop C.J. Abrams while both ran off to catch a Tommy La Stella flier shot. The ball was hit towards the shallow end of left field.

Abrams took the catch with his back to the infield. His left knee hit Profar in the jaw with immense power, just as Profar positioned himself to hold on to a diving catch. While Profar had to be taken away for treatment, Abrams however stayed in the game.

“Its’ awful but he makes it easier on the fact that he’s smiling. He’s laying there smiling,” quoted Padres’ Manager, Bob Melvin. He spoke about Profar. According to Melvin, Profar didn’t lose consciousness at all after the accident. Melvin continued, “We get him up but all of a sudden he goes down again. Any time you put somebody on a stretcher like that it’s an awful feeling. But looking at him, the way he is trying to make everybody feel ok about it with a smile on his face, makes you feel a little bit better.” Melvin further added, “I didn’t realize the severity of it until I saw the slow-motion replay of it once I came out of the game.”
