Emerging from New York and boasting an extensive fan base, the Yankees consistently dominate discussions in the sports world. Regardless if it is a fresh signing, trade, or game recap. However, this time the most celebrated team’s General Manager’s decision from the past still brings the image of the entire team in a negative spotlight.

Back in 2018, Yankees GM Brian Cashman indicated the top free-agent outfielder, Bryce Harper, was an un-fit for the team. Seems like the designated outfielder and right-hand fielder couldn’t make a significant difference for the New York Yankees. Lately, a Twitter repost addressing Cashman’s decision from a Yankees fan is attracting hate for the GM.

In December 2018, Bryan Hoch, the MLB Insider, tweeted about the angle between Cashman and Harper. The tweet reads, “Brian Cashman indicated that Bryce Harper isn’t a fit for the #Yankees. Said the team already has 6 outfielders and that playing Harper at first base isn’t realistic.” To add, GM never had Harper in his crosshairs with Aaron Judge, Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Giancarlo Stanton as outfield choices.

Although many other Twitter users have reposted this tweet, attracting a lot of different fan reactions. Most recently, a fervent Yankees fan, ZT, reposted the tweet which has garnered hate for Cashman.

Yankees are aware of the caliber of outfield they possess. And acquiring Giancarlo Stanton in that trade was a significant move. Although they never reached out to Bryce Harper, it was common knowledge that the individual in question had been an avid Yankees fan since childhood. Soon after Harper was looked down upon by the Yankees, he signed the largest MLB contract of that time and never looked back.

The 30-year-old made his MLB debut in 2012 with Washington Nationals. Until his tenure with WN, Harper accumulated various accolades in his resume. After the Yankees overlooked Harper and his potential, in March 2019, the free-agent outfielder signed a 13-year. A staggering $330 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.

While in Phillies, Harper became the second player after Barry Bonds in MLB history to win a league MVP with two different teams before the age of 30. In 2021, Harper silenced the skeptics by securing his second NL MVP Award, by proving them wrong. Taking a game-winning go-ahead two-run home run in Game 5 of the NLCS, he gained his first 2022 World Series appearance.

Although Bryce Harper is doing wonders since his deal with Phillies, regrettably, the fantasy of Harper wearing pinstripes and teaming up with Judge to aid the Yankees in their pursuit of a World Series victory will remain nothing more than a dream.
