Neil Magny Set to Take on Michael Chiesa on Fight Island

Neil Magny is set to take on fellow welterweight Michael Chiesa at Fight Island on the 20th of January. 

The UFC is starting 2021 with a bang. The promotion is headed back to Fight Island for a triple header. The UFC will kick off their third visit to Abu Dhabi with a thrilling featherweight main event featuring Max Holloway and Calvin Kattar on January 16th. 

Just four days later, the much-anticipated fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Leon Edwards will take place on January 20th. The Fight Island trip will be finished off by a fight between Conor McGregor and  Dustin Poirier at UFC 257.

In the next few weeks, Dana White and his team will ensure that the third trip to Fight Island is as successful as the first two, by booking some incredible fights for the fans to enjoy.

Neil Magny vs Michael Chiesa to spice up an already stacked card on January 20th 

Brett Okamoto of ESPN took to Twitter to confirm that a fight between ‘Haitian Sensation’ and ‘Maverick’ is in the works. He tweeted, “Per sources, Michael Chiesa (@MikeMav22) vs. Neil Magny (@NeilMagny) has been agreed to for the Jan. 20 Fight Island card. One of these two could presumably serve as a backup to that Edwards/Chimaev main event.”

Neil Magny is currently on a three-fight win streak. All three wins have come this year. His streak includes wins over the likes of Robbie Lawler, Jingliang Li, and Anthony Rocco Martin.

Magny is currently ranked 9th in the division. A win over 8th ranked Chiesa would put him on a fast track for a higher rank and a good chance to fight for the title.

Maverick’ on the other hand has been on a roll since his move up. He used to cut a lot of weight to make the 155-pound weight limit which affected his performance. He is currently on a three-fight win streak. It includes wins over the likes of Anthony Pettis, Diego Sanchez, and Rafael dos Anjos. 

A win over Magny will put ‘Maverick’ in strong contention for a top 5 rank and result in him entering the conversation for a title shot.
