“Moment Has Arrived”: Julia Goerges Retires From Professional Tennis

It is heartbreaking to part ways with something we hold dear to ourselves. When it comes to a passion followed since childhood, which carved an identity in this world, it is even difficult to say goodbye. However, life goes on and at some point or the other, we all have to do it. German tennis professional Julia Goerges announced her retirement from professional tennis this afternoon.

In an emotional farewell note, Julia recollected her earliest memory and stated it was beyond her imagination to consider tennis as her career.

“When I started playing tennis at the age of five, I would never have thought that we would go such a long way together,” she wrote.

Tennis has given Julia everything from an identity to a glorious career. It has been an incredible teacher in her life as she mentioned in her post. Recalling every lesson, Julia Goerges waved a heartfelt goodbye.

You have given me so many different types of emotions throughout our journey and I am very thankful for everything you have shown and taught me. I learnt how to deal with the toughest losses but also enjoy the most amazing wins of my career, to fight back many times when I was struggling with you and through it all, we never lost sight of our dreams.”

The German professional is ready to take on a new phase of life following her retirement. Although she promised that tennis will remain a part of her.

I always knew how I would feel when it is time to say goodbye to you, and that moment has arrived. I am ready to close the tennis chapter of my life and open a new one, which I am really excited about. Thank you for everything you have given me. You will stay forever in my heart.”

The career of Julia Goerges

Julia had a wonderful career spanning over a decade. She turned pro in the year 2005 and after fifteen long years, she decided to end her career. She reached a career-high number 9 rank in WTA in 2018. The same year she succeeded in edging into the semi-finals of the Wimbledon Championships.

Apart from an amazing run in the singles event, she had an even amazing run in the doubles event. Julia Goerges reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open twice in 2015 and 2016. In 2016, she had even reached the semi-finals of the Wimbledon Championship as well. However, her best run came off in 2014, when she reached the French Open finals in the mixed doubles event. Although, she had to settle for the runner-up trophy.
