Muguruza out from the Wuhan Open

The fourteenth seed, Garbine Muguruza wrapped up her first-round victory by dropping just a game in Wuhan Open. However, she loses to a qualifier in the second round. Qualifier Katerina Siniakova fought back from 5-1 down in the first set and she saw Muguruza 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-1) off from the Wuhan Open. As Siniakova takes Muguruza out of the Chinese tournament and that makes Ashleigh Barty as the only seeded player surviving in the tournament.

The Czech, Siniakova achieved the biggest singles victory in her career. Also, she reached the quarterfinal of a WTA tournament by knocking out the celebrated Spaniard, Muguruza on the battlefield. “I’m really happy about this, I’m just trying to keep working and now I hope it’s showing,” Siniakova said. She strived to win each point in the match. She is now confident about her defence from the baseline and she is optimistic about her aggressive nature of play.

The reigning French Open champion, Simona Halep fell 6-0 7-5 to the Slovak Dominika Cibulkova in the second round of the Wuhan Open. “It was tough to play in the beginning because my back was blocked. I knew it was because we talked together with my team. Normally, I’d have to retire, but I didn’t want to, and I don’t like to do that. I pushed myself to play better,” Halep said.

Ashleigh Barty, the 2017 Wuhan finalist overthrew the German, Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-1. “She’s always very difficult to play against. She’s one of the best players in the world, and you have to come out here, enjoy and have fun, and try and play as well as you can,” said Barty, who will next play Pavlyuchenkova. The two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova surrendered to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. In addition that, the Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki has also been pulled out from the tournament. The Dane bagged just two titles, the other one being Eastbourne in the month June.
