When the IPL launched in 2008, no one thought that this will become a cricket festival for fans. IPL is now the most watched T20 league around the world. Playing this tournament, the Mumbai Indians created history on Monday. This is a big feat for the team as well as the IPL.
It was an unusual night for the Mumbai Indians on Monday when they couldn’t chase a target. As many of you can recall, they have chased some big targets in this season with the help of Hardik Pandya and Pollard. Mumbai Indians tried their best to win the game but it was Ben Stoke who bowled the 19th over and gave just 7 runs. In the next over, Ben Stokes took a spectacular catch of Hardik Pandya which was a big wicket for the team. This led to a three-run defeat for Mumbai Indians.
They might have lost the match by a narrow margin but having played that match, they have set a world record. Now Mumbai Indians holds the record of the most T20 matches played by a team. It was their 170th match, including IPL and Champion League. Out of those, MI has won 97 T20s and lost 71, while two ended without a result.
Before this match, England’s county club Somerset held the record by playing 169 T20 games. In third place is Hampshire, who have played in 166 games. Royal Challengers Bangalore are fourth on the list with 162 games.
