NASCAR Xfinity driver Chase Briscoe has come one step closer to the Xfinity title in 2020. The 25-year old seized victory at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, his fifth win in 13 starts.

Suffice to say, as soon as he parked the No. 98 car on the front stretch, he went ballistic. He clambered out and he and his pit crew scaled the catch fence before returning back to the earth and even kissed the bricks.

As is the case with a number of American racers, Briscoe dreamed of racing at the famous Brickyard. He clinched the win after a strategic late pit stop for tires saw him retake the lead. However, he did not have it easy, especially with AJ Allmendinger and Austin Cindric on his tail in the final few laps.

“I just can’t believe I won at Indianapolis,” Briscoe crowed, speaking to ESPN. “It’s still not as prestigious as winning on the oval, but to be the first to do something here, it’s still special — especially when you grow up less than an hour away from here.”

Eventually, Allmendinger and Cindric’s bumping and barging, cost them as Justin Haley and Noah Gragson took advantage. Admittedly, Briscoe was disappointed that he could not win in front of cheering fans or family, but knows that it can’t be helped.

The future is bright for Chase Briscoe

Briscoe has been in top form so far, leading the series with five wins in 2020. Even Justin Haley found himself entertained by the titanic battle raging ahead of him.

However, there were a couple of hairy moments for Briscoe, where he passed three cars in the first turn. Unfortunately, he made a rare mistake and went three-wide down the front straight.

“I kind of did a dirt-track slide into them, and I looked around and suddenly there was no one around me,” Briscoe confessed. “Every week, I’ve talked about how the fans make winning fun, and the last couple times, I didn’t really celebrate because I don’t get hyped up. But to win here at Indianapolis, driving for my hero, with [interim crew chief] Greg Zipadelli in my box, it’s just unbelievable.”
