Chase Elliott had a great 2022 NASCAR season. However, the Hendrick Motorsports driver could not register his second series win at Phoenix last Sunday. And it wouldn’t be wrong to point out that the entire Ross Chastain incident had something to do with it. Had Elliott not been wrecked, he might have witnessed a better finish to his exceptional season.

While talking about the incident on NASCAR with NBC, NASCAR driver Parker Kligerman discussed Chase Elliott’s potential motivation behind his move. He said; “Yeah. I think that’s a very valid point. And for Chase, I wonder if there’s you know, he replays that & thinks, ‘I probably would’ve just ward off in the corner and fought him off to the corner. You know, instead of just tryna block down to the left.”

He further continued; “It also could have been one of those things where he didn’t know he had the fastest car. He knows he has one of the fastest cars. He has got put in this position where if he can just stay in front of them, all his championship contenders, maybe for some way this all works out.”

Moreover, Kligerman revealed his thoughts on what must be going on in Chase’s mind. He said; “They get dirty air and can’t get by him. I think this could potentially be some of the thought processes of like ‘I gotta keep this driving position. Which is why he made the move down the block.”

Throughout the year, Chase Elliott managed to reach the top of the points table with his exceptional performance. However, a single move at the finals changed the entire course of direction for the Hendrick Motorsports driver. At Phoenix, Ross Chastain and Chase Elliott were fighting to win the trophy.

However, after the restart around lap 200, Chase Elliott’s car rammed into the wall. Trying to get ahead on the track before crossing the start/finish line, Elliott’s vehicle stuck at the nose of Chastain’s. And as one would expect, Chastain did not lift, sending Elliott’s car into the wall.
