And well, as it turns out, Byron is not just an incredible racecar driver, he is also a pretty decent golfer. And with the 88th edition of the Augusta Masters only hours away from crowning its champion, the part-time golf enthusiast revealed his favorite to win the coveted green jacket.

In a lighthearted exchange, Lee Spencer of Speedway Digest and catchfence.com asked William Byron, “So you mentioned the Masters have you been to August and watched it live do you play golf and if so what’s your handicap?”
The North Carolina native made an impressive declaration. “Yeah, I have,” he said. Explaining he has not “been that into golf lately,” Byron continued to talk about his extensive admiration for professional golfing’s first of four major men’s championships of the season. He elaborated, “But I love the Masters. I’ve been once or twice and it’s just a very special place and just has that kind of history behind it and that aura when you walk in. So it’s really cool, it’s comparable to some of the the racetracks we go to that have a lot of history and I think it’s just a special event. I like how fan-friendly it is and everything.”

His next statement certainly made an argument for itself. “I was around an eight handicap but I’m probably like a ten or a 12 right now because I haven’t played in months.” On the other hand, when asked, who he thinks will win this year’s Augusta Masters. Byron replied, “I think (Scottie) Scheffler. He’s got the best mindset out there I think. He’s just very solid and he can shape the ball really well.”
It is also to be noted that William Byron’s affinity for golfing takes place on an even bigger picture.

Winning on (and off) the track
From garnering over 100 wins in iRacing to winning the 2024 Daytona 500, Byron has had an interesting path to reaching the highest rungs of the NASCAR ladder. But apart from being Jeff Gordon’s successor at Hendrick Motorsports, the 26-year-old also leads a very charitable life. To date, his foundation alongside the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas has raised almost seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars to “positively affect the lives of youth throughout the United States.”

How did Byron achieve this feat? From the proceeds of the aforementioned charity golf tournament. Unsurprisingly, at the end of this month, the event will take place for its fourth annual time aiming to raise “approximately $2.2 million to support the 1000+ youth that they serve”. The official BBBS Central Carolinas website further affirms: “This golf tournament helps each year in reaching that goal.”
The release also states that “William was once a Big Brother and recognizes the importance of having positive, reliable mentors in the lives of today’s youth.” With a ceiling as high as it possibly could be, and a potential championship waiting in the future, Byron has certainly made a positive impact, not only on track but also with his charitable off-track ventures.
