The NASCAR calendar is constantly evolving, and now the latest rumors suggest that Toronto could be next. Normally, the sport has limited itself to operate on American soil. However, there have been instances where NASCAR has gone abroad. There has been a push for more road courses on the calendar in recent years.

Initially, there were plans for a race in Toronto, but the coronavirus pandemic changed that. Admittedly, there were a few talks and a future Cup race was on the cards. There was also a possibility that it could have been a street race. Additionally, NASCAR could have debuted mid-week races.

Where else has NASCAR hosted races?

As mentioned before, this is hardly the first time NASCAR ventures outside the USA. Back in 2013, the sport made landfall in Ontario for the Truck Series race at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The series also visited the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico, intermittently.

Even the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve played host to a few races. Other than that, NASCAR only ever visited three other non-American tracks. The Suzuka Circuit and the Motegi Circuit in Japan witnessed a few races. Additionally, the Calder Park Thunderdrome in Australia, hosted a race in 1988.

Aside from those exceptions, the stock car racing series has been firmly rooted in the United States. However, as the years pass, and with more road courses being added, will that change in the future?

One thing is for sure, NASCAR will never be the same once again. This transition has been fairly gradual and it appears that most of the drivers have embraced this step. However, it does not mean that Oval tracks are not important to the calendar. They will always hold a special place on the calendar, especially iconic races like the Daytona 500 and other such oval races.
