It’s difficult to maintain one’s composure after watching their efforts go to waste. And efforts do go to waste often in oval racing. The attribute that separates a champion from others is how they react to such circumstances. One such reaction has taken the motorsports world by storm.

When a driver is just inches away from the start-finish line and an opponent comes in and ruins the former’s chances of bagging the win, the aftermath of the skirmish is bound to be unruly. However, when a 16-year-old driver comes out of a crash, which was not her fault, and just fist bumps the person who did it, the entire community is bound to be shocked.

While Jade Avedisian was driving her #84 midget on a dirt track in North Carolina, head-to-head with Tanner Carrick’s #71M with the sole motive of winning, the latter drove her into the outside wall around turn 1. Everyone had expected the young lady to come out of her car, take off her helmet, and give Carrick a piece of her mind.

But Avedisian lifted her hand, fist-bumped Carrick, and quietly walked away. Indeed, battles are won with a cool head. And the magnanimity in this young athlete’s character clearly speaks of her bright future. That she thought of the sponsors at a heated-up moment like that is just unimaginable.

That astuteness in her psyche is what made her the first female speedster to have ever won a championship in dirt Midget racing after she seized the Xtreme Outlaw title in 2023. Her team, Keith Kunz Motorsports, was undoubtedly elated. And so was Kyle Larson.

The entire NASCAR community knows Kyle Larson as an avid dirt car racer. Moreover, he and Avedisian were teammates at KKM in 2020 for a brief span of time. Needless to say, Avedisian has always considered Larson as her role model. After having won 7 times in 7 different divisions of dirt races at Eldora Speedway, it’s not too far-fetched for Jade Avedisian to look up to the HMS star.

Her feat has impressed veterans from the world of NASCAR as well. Kenny Wallace reposted her recent tweet, and the community joined in to shower praises on the young, talented driver.

What impressed the fans was not that she’s a girl in a predominantly male-dominated sport

There have been other female drivers in the world of car racing too. Hence, Jade Avedisian is not someone who has done it for the first time. However, very few ladies have earned a championship title in their respective car racing leagues. And Avedisian is now one of them.

Avedisian tweeted, “Dreams do come true. 5 wins and the Xtreme Outlaw Series championship.”  Referring to the constant support that she has received from everyone on her team, she typed words of gratitude, “Multiple times this year I didn’t think we were going to have a chance to win this championship but our passion and perseverance brought us back after being down 180 points.”
