Junior Motorsports driver, Justin Allgaier’s run in the Xfinity Series race at Talladega Superspeedway has come to a crushing end. Allgaier No. 7 Chevrolet car made contact with Riley Herbst’s ride from the back, which sent him spinning inside the racetrack and crashing hard into the wall.

For the most part, drivers raced pretty cleanly without any major switches in the track position. However, with stage 1 coming to an end, everyone started to make moves and broke from their respective packs. During Allgaier’s crash, the field was three-wide and unfortunately, he came across the worst of all the chaos that ensued. Herbst, who made contact with Allgaier’s car, had complained about issues with his No. 98 Ford Mustang.

Superspeedway races are chaotic, to say the least. With everyone trying to take in the feel of the racetrack and their competition, the floodgates are usually open when a stage is coming to an end. In Allgaier’s case, his attempts to secure a good position before the end of Stage 1 resulted in a disastrous crash.

Speaking to the press after his early exit, the JRM driver shared his frustration regarding the race car. “I feel like the package we are running, unfortunately, I don’t know from the driver’s seat it’s really hard to navigate. You don’t really feel like you’re going that fast, but the same time you can run really run anywhere close to being by yourself, and it forces all of us to get in that top lane. When you do that, it becomes very difficult; the craziness kind of ensues when it comes to the end of the stage like that.”

He argued that he just wasn’t able to pull off a similar move by the driver who were leading in the outside lane. “Everybody kind of settled on top, and then whole group it kind of came through. It was just crazier, I think, early on than normal. Obviously not fond of it, so you put yourself in that position whenever you try to make the same moves that everybody else is, but unfortunately I’m standing back talking to you guys, not out there racing.”

From the initial view, it looked like Riley Herbst’s making contact with Allgaier’s car resulted in him crashing. However, the JRM driver didn’t blame him for his exit from the race.

Superspeedway races kind of put the drivers on the edge. One of the key elements of this style of racing is staying in packs and making your moves late in the stages. The Illinois native tried pulling off a similar trick today at Talladega, but instead found himself on the receiving end of things. SHR driver Riley Herbst’s slightest contact on the bumper of his No. 7 JRM Chevrolet sent him spiraling off the racetrack and crashing into the wall.

However, despite their run-ins in the past, Allgaier believes that Herbst wasn’t in the wrong despite wrecking him. “I mean, I don’t feel like there’s anything he did wrong today. It’s just the nature of the car and where we’re at. It sucks getting wreck or wrecking yourselves, it’s never fun and is never ideal. But at the same time, Superspeedway racing is kind of this, and you’re gonna get crashes every now and then and hope you learn from it.”

It’s not just Justin Allgaier, but almost the entirety of the JRM driver lineup has been marred by unfortunate wrecks and crashes this season. Hopefully, they managed to overturn this bad phase and get back to competing in the races.
