All the way back in 2004, the Xfinity Series race at the Nashville Superspeedway ended in dramatic fashion. In the final couple of laps, Kyle Busch was leading the race, ahead of Clint Bowyer, Robby Gordon, and Johnny Benson. Unfortunately for Busch, Bowyer tagged him into a spin. What followed next was a scene of all four cars spinning out of the race. Behind them in 5th place, Michael Waltrip was not about to decline an open invitation.

So, he was able to sneak past the wreck and held on to win the race, ahead of Johnny Sauter and Kasey Kahne. Meanwhile, the four spinning drivers were able to recover and finish the race in 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th. It all started when Bowyer bumped Busch and both of them spun right in front of Gordon and Benson. The other two drivers spun as well because they had nowhere to go.

How did Michael Waltrip escape the wreck involving Kyle Busch and Co.?
All that the #99 driver had to do was keep to the outside line and stay there. Needless to say, he did just that, and it was smooth sailing from there. Sauter and Kahne were only too happy to snatch the free positions. Going by Waltrip’s onboard camera, he had a strong feeling that someone at the front may try something stupid and desperate.

So when the quartet spun, he eased off the throttle and plowed through the smoke. Of course, he would have been praying that none of the wrecking drivers went to the top lane and dragged him into the crash. In the end, things worked in his favor and he went on to take his 11th and final Xfinity Series win.
