Racing, motorsports of any kind, any size, and any form is full of risks. Be it NASCAR, INDYCAR, F1, MotoGP, or even forms of motorsports like Sprint Cars, Dirt Cars, and so on, the danger towards the safety aspect is always high.

This was something that was recently on display during a World of Outlaws Sprint Cars race at Huset’s Speedway.

Matt Chaney, the driver piloting the #12, went airborne after what seemed like clipping something on the high line. His car first lost control, then, through its own momentum, shot up in the air, twisted twice, and landed on its rear before settling on its roof.

Defending NASCAR champion speaks about the danger of racing in dirt and late models

In an interview earlier this year, former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick interviewed the defending Cup Series champion and Hendrick Motorsports superstar Kyle Larson.

Danica Patrick asked the NASCAR champ how the fact that dirt racing is a relatively more dangerous form of racing affects him. “I don’t think it’s part of the allure at all,” Larson said.

“I don’t think about it at all when I strap into a dirt car,” he continued.

“But I do know there’s a lot of people that rely on me, say, driving a NASCAR. There are hundreds of employees at Hendrick, there were hundreds of employees when I was at (Chip) Ganassi that rely on me.”

Regardless, Kyle Larson said he understands that side of it. At the same time, he is of the belief that the positives he can get as a racecar driver by racing in dirt cars, outweigh the risk aspect of it.

“There’s always a risk and I think anybody can have their own opinion on that,” he said.
