The Los Angeles Lakers surprised many fans, as they went on a late title charge. After the All-Star break, the Lakers had the best record in the NBA with 16 wins and 7 losses. They rallied behind LeBron and AD in the postseason and reached the Western Conference Finals, where they eventually lost to the Nuggets. Austin Reaves was one of the reasons for the Lakers’ post All-Star break revival.

The Lakers offered Reaves a new contract for his stellar performances during the back end of last season. Reaves went viral recently for his incredible trick shot he posted on his Tik-Tok account. He has also stated that he is the best golfer in the NBA, and yes, that includes Stephen Curry.

Reaves Declares Himself as the Best Golfer in the NBA

Austin Reaves burst onto the scene last season during the Lakers’ incredible late title push. The Lakers defeated title favorites like the Grizzlies and the Warriors on their way to the Western Conference Finals. Post All-Star break, Reaves averaged 17.6 points, 5.5 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 23 games. Reaves signed a four-year contract worth $53.8 million dollars this offseason, as the Lakers wanted to retain the core of the team.

Apart from basketball, Reaves is an avid golfer and has already left a significant impression on millions with his golfing abilities. He went viral after he posted an incredible trick shot on his Tik-Tok account, Hillbilly Bogey. It looks like Reaves is at it again, as the 25-year-old posted another trick shot on his Instagram stories.

Reaves recently made an appearance on the Zach Lowe Podcast. During the conversation, the topic of best golfer in the NBA came up and Reaves was adamant that he is the best golfer, even better than Stephen Curry. He said, “Hey, I’m down to play golf whenever, wherever against anybody. I love golf so much, I’d go play Tiger. Obviously, I don’t have any expectation of winning that one . . . but I would love to play against Steph”.

Austin Reaves: A True Underdog

Reaves began his college career at Wichita State before transferring to the University of Oklahoma, where he steadily improved his skills. His work ethic, versatility, and ability to contribute on both ends of the floor caught the attention of NBA scouts. But despite interest, Reaves went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Reaves persevered and joined the Lakers on a two-way deal in August 2021. The 25-year-old broke out in the 2022-23 season, earning a $2.2 million dollar contract extension. This meant Reaves would be a restricted free agent in the summer of 2023. The Lakers went all in to retain him, as Reaves secured a salary worth $53.8 million dollars. His stellar performances also earned him a call-up to represent the USA at the FIBA World Cup. With the new season almost upon us, Reaves would like to prove that he is much more than a ‘One Season Wonder’.
