Sports is a ruthless business. One season’s failure can turn into a condemnation. Fanbases are the embodiment of this attitude. Therefore, an athlete has to have an iron will to continue the journey. These athletes have to be ready for trades that can see a change in the city overnight. The life of a pro athlete in both the NFL and NBA is, therefore, incumbent upon their existing franchise. And this is unless they command superstar-like charisma, which is rare.

In a couple of scenarios, fans can find a similarity between two trades that hit the Bay Area. The Warriors fans and 49ers fans also recall the contrasts in the situation.

Selected as the third pick in the 2021 draft, Trey Lance came in as the next big thing. The 49ers had given a bunch of valuable assets to acquire him at the position. However, just after a couple of seasons, the San Francisco 49ers traded him to the Dallas Cowboys, where he is likely to play as a backup QB to Dak Prescott.

He had also been a backup for the 49ers, filling in for Jimmy Garoppolo. After some impressive snippets during his rookie season, Lance hit the injury wall in his sophomore year. He played in just two games because of an ankle injury.

Now, the QB will have a chance to resurrect his career with the Cowboys. This case is not that different from James Wiseman, who was slated as the next star for the Golden State Warriors, another San Francisco-based franchise.

He was the second pick in the 2020 draft. The 7′ Center’s Warriors career never took flight. He missed more than half of his games in his rookie year; he missed the entire 2021-22 season, and last season too. Wiseman had a lot of injury troubles. When he returned to the NBA action, the Warriors couldn’t find a fitting role for him.

As a result, they traded him to the Detroit Pistons. Therefore, both Lance and Wiseman, as top draft picks, have seen a change in the team during a short span.

In this vein, fans discussed the similarities and contrasts.
