“Bron’s my dawg … we’re not besties but like, realistically, I always appreciate him.” Not everyone gets the privilege of describing LeBron James as her “dawg.” At the same time, however, not everyone is A’ja Wilson. Over the course of her six-year ongoing run in the WNBA, the Las Vegas Aces center has established herself as amongst the best in the league, having won two championship titles, two MVP honors, and numerous other accolades. Even a basic association with LeBron James would be the classic definition of ‘game recognizes game.’ Therefore, as the 28-year-old once again left a mark in the history books, the NBA star was there to give her a shoutout.

Even before the recent matchup against the Indiana Fever came to a close, A’ja Wilson had established a feat months in the making! Through her 941 overall point made within the first half, she broke the WNBA single season scoring record previously established by Jewell Loyd back in 2023. While she only needed 11 points before the beginning of the game to take the top rank, she still went on to add a total of 27 points by the time the minutes concluded. Having witnessed the feat like all of the other viewers, LeBron took to X to write “STRAIGHT (bucket emoji)’s!!! CONGRATULATIONS SIS! Love to see it!!!” The 39-year-old even reposted A’ja’s own post highlighting the achievement, so that any of his 53 million followers who missed out get the update as well.

LeBron’s praise of the WNBA star comes just a few hours after the official handle of the Las Vegas Aces themselves sent out a message to congratulate the player. It was no secret that the usage of the word “BAM!” by the franchise was nothing more than to give a celebratory shout. However, Wilson humorously attached a picture of Bam Adebayo in response. It’s not every day that you can make fans feel proud of you and make them laugh at your jokes the same time. Therefore, Wilson should certainly enjoy the moment.

After the recent matchup, A’ja Wilson is now just 44 points away from becoming the first ever WNBA player to make 1000 points in a single season. Given that there are still four more games remaining for the Aces, and the fact that she has been averaging 27.3 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists during the regular season, it may not be too long before her fans get to witness another historical moment live.

For now, however, the 28-year-old is not looking towards the future, but the present. In the aftermath of the 86-75 win against the Caitlin Clark led Indiana Fever, Wilson was full of gratitude as she stated “I don’t want to sound cliche when I say this but, I don’t get any of that without every single teammate along the way. I’m so grateful to be able to play with selfless women.” While Caitlin Clark had not spoken in the aftermath of the game, she had already given her praise out before by calling her out to be “pretty incredible” and “unguardable.” With the duo currently being amongst the top contenders for the MVP title, Clark’s ‘endorsement’ and Wilson’s recent feat may have just cemented the latter’s chances.

Even unknowingly, the Lakers star may have been on Wilson’s mind during the matchup. After all, she was wearing a pair of Nike LeBron 21 PEs after making the jumper, with 26.4 seconds left in the second quarter, that allowed her to break Jewell Loyd’s record. If there was ever a moment in which she became deserving of all the praise that the NBA star had showered upon her, then it was this one.

Did LeBron James name A’ja Wilson as the best player in the WNBA?

While the WNBA regular season was still in the middle stage, LeBron James was already in practice mode, along with other NBA stars, for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Despite this, the player kept his eye out on the games, especially the Las Vegas Aces, who were playing as defending champions. Therefore, by the time the first day of training camp in Vegas concluded, LeBron himself wanted to kick off the presser by praising the two-time WNBA champion.

“She (A’ja Wilson) is the best player in the WNBA” said LeBron without any hesitation. “They have hit a hot streak ever since Chelsea Grey has come back. She is a big piece to their puzzle. They are going to be one of the teams that go down the stretch, with an opportunity to compete for a championship.”

The remarks came just as the Aces had secured another win to bring the count on their win streak to six. It helped the Aces to climb out of the ditch a bit, as the franchise wasn’t performing that good during the earlier stages. However, with a 23-13 win record, they currently occupy the 2 seed on the Western Conference points chart. With any luck, the Aces will progress far in the playoffs, and LeBron James’s X feed will be filled with more praise for Wilson!
