The NBA world is going gaga about Victor Wembanyama. Everything about him is larger than life. As he is getting ready for his debut season, the San Antonio Spurs are trying to surround him with high-character, high-intelligence players. They were particularly targeting a LeBron’s teammate, but could not get him.

All eyes are on Wemby, who is a certified San Antonian now. And to be called a “Legend” by a champion, this early in his career, shows the love and the expectation that this rookie commands.

All the San Antonio No. 1 draft picks have turned out to be legends until now. Somehow, they always get the best centers of the league, who etch out storied careers. Kyle Kuzma, who won a championship with LeBron’s Lakers, must be indicating that when he called Wembanyama a “Legend” in the latter’s Instagram story. If the praises that are heaped on Wemby are true, then he truly is a legend in the making.

The certified San Antonian, that Wembanyama has become, will have to shoulder the expectations of a Gregg Popovich’s team which is on the lookout for talents like Austin Reaves. Austin has made a name for himself with his attitude and doggedness. The Spurs tried to pry him away from the Lakers. But Austin Reaves chose to remain with the Los Angeles team, by signing a $54 million extension.
