Michael Porter Jr. says the Warriors are done—do you agree with his bold claim?

After Klay Thompson‘s departure from the Golden State Warriors, they’ve not been the same Golden Dynasty. Well, its foundation was laid after Thompson missed two whole seasons due to his knee and Achilles injury. Even Draymond Green and Stephen Curry could not save the day for the Dubs that year. Yet Stephen Curry remains in the headlines for being one of the GOATs of the NBA. It popped up, particularly after his Paris Olympics three-point flurry. Although the contrast is always there, Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr. is there to break it once and for all.

Moving further after giving a brief of Anthony Edwards’ statement, ex-Wolves guard Austin Rivers expressed his opinion on the Off Guard with Austin Rivers podcast. “They didn’t have the knowledge that we have now. They were not doing this type of training,” Rivers said, giving his take on the controversy. And it’s true that advancement in training technology and analytics makes it easier for players to improve.

Also, access to information and games has expanded a lot. Even Austin mentioned the same thing when he added, “I learned the Euro Step in 9th-grade 10th grade. That’s when you know first started to become popular. Kids are doing Euro Step in third grade now because they already have access to it. It’s just like the evolution of timing; these kids learning things at an early stage.”

Rivers called out the worthlessness of the debate with a single statement, “I think it usually starts with the GOAT debate, then we start getting into accolades, then we start getting into eras. It’s like a snowball thing.” However, even Austin agreed when Michael Porter Jr. bulged in to claim, “If Warriors would’ve played in that era, they would’ve probably won 10 championships.”

No doubt, the team, till the 2017-18 season, was the best team to ever bless the NBA court. With his statement, Michael Porter Jr. has put the Golden Dynasty again on a pedestal that an NBA legend refused a couple of months ago.

In June 2024, NBA Hall of Famer and one of the best shooting guards of all time, Tracy McGrady, made a bold claim. He broke the stereotype around the face of the Dubs, Stephen Curry, on the topic of ‘Stephen Curry is a top-5 NBA player of all time.’ However, McGrady was not on the same page with that argument as he replied, “No, he tripping on that. He hasn’t cracked my top-10 yet, he just hasn’t.”

The 7x NBA All-Star had his reasons for putting Golden Boy down as he added, “If you’re going to be top-5 and one of your guys are missing and you can’t make the playoffs, I can’t put you in my top-5 or top-10… I just can’t.” When Klay Thompson was absent from the whole season during 2019-20, the Warriors displayed their worst performance with a 15-50 finish to the season. Also, Draymond Green just got to play 43 games in that season.

So it is evident that Stephen Curry alone can’t lift the team out of trouble without his buddies. Since he is the Warriors star, the same goes for the team. Contrarily, Michael Jordan, at an individual level, was a pioneer, as he could single-handedly annihilate the opposition. However, when it comes to a team debate, Michael Porter Jr. was not wrong.
