The New Orleans Pelicans are set to face off against the Detroit Pistons within the next few hours. While the Pistons (12-58) currently occupy the bottommost seed on the points chart, the Pelicans (43-27) are fortunate enough to be ranked as the 5. Therefore, with just 12 more games remaining in the regular season, the latter team has to continue maintaining their position to qualify for the playoffs. Their chances of doing so have recently hit a bump, however, in light of star player Brandon Ingram’s injury. Having already missed two crucial games, fans have been waiting for an update on whether the player will appear to take on Cade Cunningham and co.

A few hours ago, sports journalist Christian Clark took to his official X account to share an update on the recent MRI scan conducted on Brandon Ingram. He stated that the “MRI revealed left bone knee contusion for Brandon Ingram. He will be reevaluated in two weeks, Pelicans say.” Given that it will take at least two weeks until a proper revaluation can be done, there is a good chance that the player won’t be able to make it to the clash at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

Brandon Ingram’s unavailability was also confirmed in the official Injury Report submitted by the Pelicans. Quoting the same, the official website of the NBA highlighted that “Five Pelicans players are listed as out, a group that includes Brandon Ingram (left knee bone contusion)”. The group also includes Dyson Daniels, who has been suffering from a left knee meniscectomy). Other players like E.J. Liddell, Malcolm Hill, and Dereon Seabron have also been ruled out.

From the Detroit Pistons’ side, shooting guard Quentin Grimes and forward Simone Fontecchio have been ruled out. Jalen Duren, the team’s third-highest average scorer this season, has been confirmed to not make an appearance during the game against the Pelicans. He is joined by Taj Gibson, who is suffering from a hamstring injury.

How did Brandon Ingram develop his injury?

Before their recent game against the Orlando Magic, the New Orleans Pelicans were establishing a remarkable streak for themselves by having won 6 of their last 7 games. The clash against the then 41-28 team not only broke that streak but also benched one of their most valuable players. During the third quarter, as the Pelicans were trailing their rivals by 13 points, Brandon Ingram could be seen attempting to block Jalen Suggs from dropping the ball through the hoop. As Suggs charged, Ingram got hit and ended up hyper-extending his left knee. Fans were left in dismay as the player just lay on the court, clutching his knee in pain. In the end, he had to be carried to the locker room by his teammates.

If the revaluation within the next two weeks clears Ingram, then the player will have a very good chance of playing his next game during the playoffs. Before, the Pelicans will have to fill the gap left behind by their teammate and secure a win against the Pistons.
