For athletes, especially in the NBA realm, not all battles are fought on the court. Some are out there in the business world, where a single loss can cost a fortune. And while everyone is familiar with the Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James’ prowess on the court, the 4x NBA champion back in 2020 tried to dip his toe into the entrepreneurial world.

James, upon entering the market, had to face a crushing defeat at the hands of another entrepreneurial athlete. The $800 million WWE legend beat James in the battle of profits three years ago. To this, James asks a simple, $45 dollar question.

Lakers LeBron James launched his own tequila brand, Lobos 1707. Founded by Diego Osorio, the brand is backed heavily by their pivotal investor, James. All was hunky-dory for The King until the $800,000,000 WWE legend, Dwayne Johnson, disrupted the spirit industry with his own Teremana Tequila.

The Rock came into the market 2 years later with a versatile, affordable drink option and the people loved it. Teremana bottles were flying off the shelves as in the first year itself it sold 400k cases. Valued at $3.5 billion, Johnson’s tequila sales are doubling every year.

While the Lobos 1707 has some catching up to do, it’s certainly established itself as an elite spirit. In the annual San Francisco World Spirits Competitions (SFWSC), also known as the Oscars’ of the Spirits world, Lobos 1707 Reposado tequila left its mark. James said, “Nothing better than a Lobos night!!” and asked a crucial $45 question, “Who’s having more fun than us!!” While the answer to this rhetorical question is apparent, James’ brand is taking the tequila industry by storm. Priced at just $44.99, the Lobos Reposado has clearly triumphed over Teremana in terms of taste. So, it seems like James’ tequila is ready to take over The Rocks’ Teremana.
